The Burswood South Streetscape Improvement Plan will guide the revitalisation of streets and public spaces in the Burswood South mixed-use precinct over the next 10 years.
The Plan seeks to transform the precinct into an attractive and thriving place for business and living. The Plan addresses a range of issues such as pedestrian safety and amenity, vehicle speeds, poor streetscape amenity, lack of landscaping and street trees. The Plan aims to ensure the quality of streets and the character of the area reflects the Town’s vision for the precinct.
The Burswood South mixed-use precinct is the Town’s second largest commercial activity centre. It covers 41 hectares and currently contains approx. 270 dwellings and 88,000 sqm of mixed business floorspace (professional and business support services, social and community services, retailing and service industries).
The Streetscape Improvement Plan provides concepts for public realm upgrades which include – extensive street tree planting and landscaped verges, rain gardens, public seating and alfresco areas, widened footpaths and dedicated pedestrian crossing points, narrower vehicle lanes and traffic calming devices to slow traffic, additional on-street parking and removal of obsolete driveways (where possible), public art and new public realm lighting. The next stages of the project will continue investigating the potential for undergrounding power.
The Council approved the concept plans at the Ordinary Council meeting on 15 March 2022. The approved plans can be viewed via the link below.
