All proposals for a home business will require an application for development approval.
Businesses operating from a commercial premise may require development approval if you are proposing to:
- Open a new business or change the nature of an existing business
- Increase the number of patrons and/or staff on site
- Increase the floor area in which you want to operate
- Change the operating hours
- External building works
- Provide car parking or increase/reduce car parking

Building
Where there are any structural installations or alterations you will need a building permit.
Works involving alterations and additions to an existing building will usually require a building permit as the proposed fit-out could affect the way the building complies with the Building Code of Australia and applicable Australian standards.

Health
You will need to obtain approval if your business offers any of the following services:
- Acupuncture
- Ear or body piercing
- Hairdressing
- Tattooing
- Permanent eyebrow/lip lining
- Waxing
- Electrolysis
- Manicure and pedicure
- Spray tanning
To apply for your approval, complete the hair dressing and skin penetration premises application below and ensure you have provided any supporting information such as floor plan and payment of fees.
