Camera Technology and Drone Use
Funding from WA Police under the State CCTV Strategy has secured the installation of six Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras in the Town along major arterial roads.
The Jenoptik VECTOR3 cameras, which record information such as Vehicle Registration Number and vehicle classification, as well as the time and date of data capture, are anticipated to help address various safety concerns raised by the community.
The cameras will:
- Allow WA Police Force to expand their ANPR capability and network, which will assist in incident responses, improve community safety and support the investigation and prosecution of offenses;
- Enable WA Police Force to locate stolen/unlicensed vehicles, unlicensed drivers, vehicles of interest, missing persons, and persons at risk
- Capture useful information for the Town, including data points that will help us analyse road volumes, peak traffic times, journey times, and more.
Drone use
The Town of Victoria Park is not responsible for any matters relating to drone usage. The Federal Government through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority issues regulations dealing with unmanned aircraft that may assist residents concerned about drone usage. Given the Town's proximity to Perth Airport approximately half of the Town, being the areas north of the Albany Highway (Carlisle, Lathlain, Burswood, and parts of other suburbs in the Town) is a no-fly area for drones weighing more than 100 grams. Other parts of the Town are a no-launch zone for drones weighing more than 100 grams.
The Town does not have the power to enforce CASA regulations and it is unclear if the Town could make a local law to enable enforcement of matters relating to drone usage. For information from CASA visit their website. Civil Aviation Safety Authority (casa.gov.au)
In addition, CASA has apps available on multiple platforms to assist people with drones to check permissible locations for drone operations. Drone safety apps | Civil Aviation Safety Authority (casa.gov.au)
