Better Parks
The Better Parks sub program identifies parks within the Town that require a holistic upgrade to existing facilities and are simpler in nature than masterplan projects.
A Better Parks project is a straightforward upgrade to a park using a toolkit of materials and elements and will be complete within a year.
Park upgrades may include playground equipment, additional tree canopy, consolidation of turf areas, and improvements to assets such as lighting and furniture.
Forward Reserve
The first Better Parks project was completed in 2022 at Forward Reserve, Welshpool. This upgrade included playground and shade sail renewal, new paths, seating and irrigation, the removal of areas of turf replaced with native garden beds and hydro zoning, centralised turf replacement and a fence along Shepperton Road. This upgrade ensures this neighbourhood has access to quality public open space.
A community planting day was held in July 2022 as a part of the Urban Forest Implementation.
Rotary Park
As the Town’s second Better Parks project, Rotary Park in St. James will be getting a makeover in 2023.
Late last year, the Town spoke with Rotary Park users and to find out what locals want to see from the park in the future.
Ideas and priorities from the community have informed the concept design, which includes:
- Playground upgrades
- Informal play opportunities
- Extensive areas of eco zoning
- New informal pathways through the site
- Tables and benches and a shade canopy
You may notice works happening at the Park as preparations for the upgrades have begun and landscaping commenced in May 2023.
Stay tuned for the more updates. If you have any queries, contact Place Leader Ellie van Rhyn on 9311 8111 or admin@vicpark.wa.gov.au
