Victoria Park Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Askew as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Town of Victoria Park, following a Special Council meeting on 9 September 2024.

Mr Askew, who will become only the fourth CEO in the Town’s 30 year history, brings a wealth of senior leadership experience and a proven track record in local government over more than 20 years, which aligns perfectly with the Town’s commitment to innovation and growth.

Mayor Karen Vernon said “The appointment of Carl Askew marks an exciting new chapter for the Town of Victoria Park. We are confident that his collaborative leadership style, strategic management skills and new perspectives will be instrumental in helping us achieve our future milestones. We look forward to working together to achieve our community’s vision to be a dynamic place for everyone.”

Mr Askew has a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Human Resource Management.  After a decade working for the Commonwealth public service, Mr Askew began his local government career as an Executive Manager and then Executive Director with the City of Armadale (2002 – 2009).  He has held CEO roles at the Town of Cottesloe (2009 – 2015), Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley (2015 – 2020) and has been the CEO of the Town of Port Hedland since 2020.

He has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, strategic thinking and the ability to foster strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.  He has a proven track record of advocacy with the State and Federal Governments and delivering major transformational community infrastructure in challenging environments.

Mr Askew said “I am honoured to become the next CEO of the Town of Victoria Park. As a thriving inner-city growth area with a well-respected progressive local government, Victoria Park is full of possibilities. I look forward to working with the Council, Town staff, and community to build on its successes in delivering quality outcomes and to explore new opportunities for the future. Together, we will continue to make Victoria Park a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.”

In his new role, Mr Askew will oversee the Town’s $55 million capital works program, core operations, implementation of strategic initiatives such as the award-winning Urban Forest Strategy, Integrated Transport Strategy and Climate Emergency Plan, and work closely with the Council to achieve long-term goals.  He will also play a crucial role in leading the Town’s executive management and staff in engaging with the community, State and Federal Governments to ensure that the Town delivers quality services and facilities aligned with the needs and aspirations of local ratepayers and residents.
