Community Planting Days return this July

We're going green this July with the return of our annual Community Planting Days.

Taking place across two Sundays, the free planting days aim to engage our local community, and allow an opportunity to learn about the natural environment and the importance of caring and growing our green spaces.

Part of the Town’s award-winning Urban Forest Program, Deputy Mayor Bronwyn Ife said the initiative was vital in creating a happier, healthier and greener Town.

“Community Planting Days are such an integral part of our Planting Season,” she said.

“They provide a fantastic opportunity for residents and community members to roll up their sleeves, grab some gardening gloves and a spade, and invest in the future of our urban forest canopy.

“In 2023 our Community Planting Days saw us plant an incredible 1500 new seedlings, and 1900 new trees and shrubs. The aim for this year is to go even bigger, and we’re looking forward to doing just that with the help of our wonderful community.”

The first event will take place on 7 July in St James from 9am-12pm – celebrating NAIDOC Week – and the second event will take place on 28 July in Bentley, also from 9am-12pm – for National Tree Day.
