Birds of Jirdarup: your garden can help them thrive

Wednesday 12th February 2025

Join local bird man, Dr Dan Carter, author of the latest publication from the Friends of Jirdarup Bushland. Birds of Jirdarup: your garden can help them thrive.

This book is designed to help amateur watchers identify the birds they most commonly see in the Jirdarup Bushland in Victoria Park and to adapt their gardens to help those birds thrive. Illustrated with outstanding photos and incorporating stories from Noongar Dreamtime, this is a publication for all ages.

The endorsements mark this book as a must have. Hannah Beazley MLA found said the “insights into the behaviour of birds are fascinating and the photographs are truly amazing.” Environmentalist Eric McDrum described it as” an inspiration not only for people who live near Jirdarup but for all of us who want to learn more about the birds we see in our suburban gardens”. Sabrina Hahn from Hort with Heart said: “This book is for everyone who has an interest in nature and conservation with a will to save our wonderful bird species from further decline in urban areas. It is a pure joy to read.”

Copies will be available for purchase at $19.95.
